Spring feels like it is just around the corner, the sun is gradually setting later and I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to get out in the sunshine and enjoy the great outdoors!
Now Strike! started as a dedicated archery company and the passion at the core is absolutely The English Longbow. When I first started Now Strike! I had been coaching modern archery for a period of time and always wanted to get into traditional but it seemed to me at least that it wasn’t as accessible, or affordable to someone on an Outdoor Instructor’s wage! So I started to make my own wooden arrows and ultimately my own bows. Fast for to now, we still make all of our own longbows in house using hand tools and similar methods as bowyers did in the Medieval period. Our skills and knowledge have improved and our passion remains as high as ever.
It’s no surprise that archery was the first activity that we offered as a dedicated experience day and the Longbow Master Class holds the title as being one of our longest running products.
Over the years we have put our handmade longbows into the hands of hundreds of people, some of which finding a new hobby and others ticking off that bucket list item!
Tasters
If you’ve never shot a traditional wooden longbow before then you are in for a treat! The 2 hour Archery Tasters are a perfect way sample the weird and wonderful world of historic archery, taking a short journey into a simpler way of shooting while challenging yourself with our fun targets. The highlight for me is introducing people to the long distance, letting arrows fly into the sky and hopefully hitting the target! This always gives me the wow factor, even today, there’s something very therapeutic about watching arrows silently shoot off into the distance and definitely something that first sparked my interest!
Our first Taster is scheduled for 2nd March.
Master Classes
Take a deeper dive into the world of Medieval archery, this is a technical session looking at the real skill behind shooting a wooden bow. This is where we share our knowledge of military archery, teaching a solid foundation to enable you to pull heavier bows, focusing on instinctive accuracy while using a range of longbows not available on our Tasters.
This session is aimed at the history buffs, the enthusiasts and anyone looking to train in longer draws. You can expect to try fast laminates and even self yew bows as well! End the session with the ultimate test, launching an arrows from a war bow!
Our next available session is 4th May (March is fully booked!)
